A Simple Idea For Care Homes
Wildlife For Wellbeing was born from a simple idea: nature makes us feel better — so why should access to it stop at the care home door?
Whatever your age, mobility or health, the natural world has a remarkable ability to spark joy, calm busy minds, awaken memories and bring people together. A bird visiting a feeder, a hedgehog passing a camera at night, or a familiar birdsong can unlock memories and create moments of wonder—especially for people living with dementia, brain injuries or physical disabilities.
Wildlife For Wellbeing was founded by Shell and Becky, two professionals with deep roots in care and a shared belief that wellbeing should be rich, engaging and full of life.
Our Team
Shell founded the national women’s birdwatching network Birds & The Belles after seeing first-hand how birds and nature bring people together and support mental health. While working as an Activities Lead in care homes, she began introducing nature-based sessions—birdwatching, seasonal wildlife themes and quiet observation. The impact was immediate and lasting. Residents were more engaged, more relaxed and more connected to one another.
After three years of leading nature enrichment in care settings, Shell recognised the need to expand this work. Wildlife For Wellbeing grew from that vision. Her passion is also deeply personal: her father lives with vascular dementia, giving her powerful insight into the importance of dignity, meaningful stimulation and emotional connection for those living with memory impairment and brain injury.
